Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress in Osun State following a wave of high-profile resignations that has deepened the party’s internal crisis ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, comparing the exodus of members to a football transfer window in a post that went viral on X.
In a post on June 4, 2026, Davido shared photographs of multiple resignation letters from APC members and wrote, “This transfer window bad ooo nah Ambon Oyetola remain,” drawing widespread laughter and reactions online. The post, which garnered over 460,000 views and more than 9,000 likes, was a direct dig at former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, whose political influence in the state appears to be crumbling as his loyalists and key allies continue to abandon the party.
The resignation letters in Davido’s post included that of former Commissioner for Political Affairs Taiwo Akeju, former Special Adviser on Education Jamiu Olawumi, and former Local Government Chairman Otunba Sunday Ojo-Williams. These came on the heels of earlier resignations by three former Osun State House of Assembly members, Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin, all of whom also served in Oyetola’s cabinet.
The crisis within the Osun APC reflects a deepening factional war between loyalists of Oyetola and those of former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore, who has dragged the party to court over its internal ward congress results. Political analysts say the public bickering and accelerating defections are weakening the party’s chances of reclaiming the state from Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, who left the PDP in December 2025 to contest his re-election under the Accord Party banner.
Davido has been an outspoken supporter of his uncle’s political ambitions, regularly calling out perceived opponents on social media and mobilising his massive fan base around Osun politics.
