BREAKING: Everybody Knows That The Godfather I Have Is The People Themselves–Oluyede

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, June 19, 2026, Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, has stated that he does not operate under the influence of any political godfather, insisting that his political support base is rooted in the electorate rather than influential individuals within or outside the party structure.

He made the clarification while addressing questions surrounding his candidacy and political alignment ahead of the upcoming governorship election in the state.

According to him, his approach to politics is centered on public trust and collective backing from citizens who share in his vision for leadership in Ekiti State.

Oluyede made the remarks during an appearance on “Politics Today,” a current affairs programme aired on Channels Television on Thursday.

The interview focused on his preparedness for the forthcoming governorship election as well as his political orientation within the PDP.

Throughout the session, he addressed concerns about whether his campaign is being driven or supported by influential political figures, reiterating his position on independence from such structures.

The discussion also touched on issues related to party dynamics and voter engagement as the election date approaches.

In his explanation, the PDP candidate maintained that he does not owe his political rise or candidacy to any individual described as a godfather.

He emphasized that his political journey has been shaped by grassroots involvement and the backing of ordinary citizens across Ekiti State.

Oluyede stressed that his emergence as a candidate reflects a broader democratic process within the party and the support he has received from people at various levels of society, rather than influence from a single political benefactor.

He further explained that the people of Ekiti State represent his primary source of political strength and legitimacy.

According to him, the concept of a godfather in his political experience is replaced by the collective voice of the electorate, who he believes have consistently demonstrated trust in his leadership ambition.

He positioned his campaign as one that is built on direct engagement with voters, community-level consultations, and shared aspirations for governance improvement in the state.

With the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, Oluyede’s remarks come at a time when candidates across political parties are intensifying their campaigns and consolidating support bases.

He noted that the final stretch of the election period is critical for communicating his agenda to voters and reinforcing the values he intends to bring into office if elected.

His campaign, according to his submissions, remains focused on reaching as many constituents as possible before the polls.

As the electoral contest draws closer, he reiterated his stance on political independence and voter-driven support, maintaining that his candidacy is defined by popular backing rather than patronage from influential figures.

He restated that his loyalty is directed toward the people who participate in the democratic process and determine electoral outcomes through their votes.

He said: “The truth about it, is on record. Everybody knows that the godfather I have is the people themselves.
