Isaac Dung, a survivor of an attack by suspected Fulani militias in Rantiya community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, has recounted how he escaped death by pretending to be dead during an attack on his village.

Recounting his ordeal, Dung, a 37-year-old father of three, said he was returning home from work when he saw a large number of armed men riding into the community on motorcycles before opening fire on residents.

He said the attackers, whom he estimated to be more than 100, spread across the community and shot indiscriminately, forcing many people to flee.

Dung explained that he was unable to escape because of a leg injury. To survive, he lay motionless on the ground and pretended to be dead until the attackers left the area.

He added that after the gunmen departed, he hid in a nearby bush for more than five hours before returning home safely.

In Dung’s words, “The bandits were getting close, and I had to think up a survival instinct, and knowing I could not get away from them, I fell to the ground and pretended to be dead.”
