In a clip released by Arise News, Ralphs Nwosu, the previous National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), provided details about his discussions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo concerning the party’s progress.
Nwosu addressed the situations that led to talks about creating a wider political platform, mentioning that the discussions showcased efforts to enhance political involvement. His comments arise during ongoing dialogues about party frameworks and teamwork within Nigeria’s political scene.
He stated, “He [Olusegun Obasanjo] contacted me and said, ‘We wish to connect with your party.’ I replied, ‘I will die.’ He responded, ‘No, we are serious. We have conducted our research and chosen ADC as the party.’ I said, ‘Baba, the party is available.’ He remarked, ‘But you won’t be chairman because we aim to create a grand party.’ I replied, ‘What do I care about the chairmanship? I didn’t form the party to be chairman. I established the party to advance it for Nigeria.’”
He clarified that his focus has always been on aiding national growth instead of seeking a title, stressing that the party was founded with a larger goal in mind. Nwosu mentioned that discussions about leadership positions were less important than the objective of creating a robust and inclusive political platform.
The ex-ADC chairman also emphasized the significance of collaboration in politics, asserting that alliances can enhance institutions and widen opportunities for involvement. He pointed out that transparency and inclusion remain vital values in the party’s vision.
