In a recent interview shared by Channels Television, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, stirred fresh debate within Nigeria’s opposition space with his remarks on coalition politics.
Speaking on the evolving alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, Baba-Ahmed questioned the structure and credibility of emerging political arrangements. He expressed doubt over the compatibility of key figures being considered for joint tickets, particularly raising concerns about leadership balance and effectiveness.
In his words, “He is an armored time tank without a firing pin, yet he is going to deputize Peter Obi. How is that possible?” The statement was a direct reference to Rabiu Kwankwaso, in relation to a potential political pairing with Peter Obi.
Baba-Ahmed insisted that such an arrangement raises serious questions about political logic and viability, suggesting that leadership combinations within any coalition must be carefully structured to reflect strength, clarity, and purpose.
