UN Maritime Chief Declares – Around 1,500 Ships, 20,000 Crew Members Trapped in Gulf Amid Iran Conflict

According to a report by AFP News Agency on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the continued disruption of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz have left approximately 1,500 vessels and nearly 20,000 crew members stranded in the Persian Gulf, according to the head of the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO).
