Iran: Unlike Those Before Me Who Should Have Solved This Problem; I Don’t Make Bad Deals– Trump

According to a report by Al Jazeera on May 24, 2026, United States President Donald Trump defended ongoing negotiations with Iran, insisting that any agreement reached under his administration would differ significantly from the nuclear accord signed during former President Barack Obama’s tenure.

In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump rejected criticism surrounding the developing talks and maintained that the proposed agreement would protect American interests. “If I make a deal with Iran, it will be a good and proper one, not like the one made by [former US President Barack] Obama, which gave Iran massive amounts of CASH, and a clear and open path to a Nuclear Weapon”, the US president writes on his Truth Social platform.

Trump also claimed that critics were attacking details of a proposal that has not yet been finalised. “Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet. So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about. Unlike those before me who should have solved this problem many years ago, I don’t make bad deals!”

The comments come as reports continue to circulate that current negotiations may not directly address Iran’s nuclear programme, a development that has drawn concern from political rivals and foreign policy observers. Opponents have questioned whether a new arrangement without firm nuclear provisions would effectively limit Tehran’s capabilities or reduce tensions in the Middle East.

Trump’s remarks also highlight the ongoing political divide in Washington over how to manage relations with Iran. The former nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, remains a major point of disagreement between Republicans and Democrats years after the United States withdrew from the pact during Trump’s first term.
