The Independent National Electoral Commission, known as INEC, has said it will give official access codes to all political parties on Friday June 26 2026. The access codes will allow political parties to enter the Candidate Nomination Portal and upload the names and details of their candidates for the 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan made this known on Tuesday June 9 2026. He was speaking at the second Quarterly Meeting with leaders of the 22 registered political parties held at the INEC office in Abuja. He said the access codes would be given to the main officers of each political party. Once they have the codes, they can go into the portal and upload the names, personal details and other needed information of all their nominated candidates.
Amupitan warned that the portal was fully automated. He said the portal would close on its own when the time given to upload candidates ran out. He urged all political parties to make sure they were ready before June 26 so they would not miss the deadline.
The INEC chairman also spoke about court cases that have been causing problems for the commission. He said two court rulings had raised questions about parts of the INEC timetable for the 2027 elections. INEC has gone to court to challenge those rulings. Amupitan said the commission respected court decisions but added that some of the rulings had created confusion about how INEC should carry out its work.
He also said the number of court cases coming from fights within political parties was growing and becoming a big problem. He described those cases as things that were taking attention away from the real work of preparing for the 2027 elections. He called on political parties to sort out their problems quickly and stop using the courts for every small disagreement.
Amupitan also reminded all political parties about the Osun State governorship election coming up on August 15 2026. He told them to follow all electoral rules and meet all deadlines for that election.
He told the parties that the success of the 2027 elections would depend on how well everyone worked together. He said political parties must hold fair primaries, obey the law, avoid violence and hate speech, and focus on talking to voters about real issues.
