VIDEO: Fire Guts Senate Wing In National Assembly

Fire has engulfed part of the wing housing the Nigerian Senate at the National Assembly comflex.

Naija News reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday.

It was gathered that the incident happened at Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, nominee representing the North-East on the board of the commission.

The fire, which reportedly started in the kitchen compartment of the hearing room, was swiftly contained before it could spread further.

Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha are said to have led efforts to put out the fire, helping to prevent what could have become a more serious incident.

The fire, according to preliminary reports, may have been triggered by a microwave left switched on in the kitchen area.

No casualty was recorded, and normal activities resumed shortly after the incident.

After the incident, journalists were reportedly directed by committee officials to delete images and videos captured during the fire incident.
