ADC: Amaechi Did Not Beg Anybody To Be His Vice, Don’t Forget, He Ran For President As Well-Kalgo

Idris Kalgo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a close ally of former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed suggestions that Amaechi sought the position of vice-presidential candidate under former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kalgo made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV, on Friday, 19 June, 2026, while reacting to growing political discussions surrounding the opposition coalition and speculation that Amaechi could emerge as Atiku’s running mate in the next presidential election.

Addressing claims that Amaechi was lobbying for the vice-presidential slot, Kalgo insisted the former Minister of Transportation had no reason to beg for such a position, stressing that Amaechi had previously sought the presidency himself.

“Amaechi did not beg for him to be the Vice president. Don’t forget, he ran for the president as well. So he did not beg anybody to be his Vice. Never,” Kalgo said.

According to the ADC stalwart, Amaechi’s political profile and experience make it unnecessary for him to seek the office through personal appeals. He argued that the former governor has built a reputation over decades in public service, including serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor, chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and minister.
