BREAKING: Defection Looms in Adamawa ADC as Sen. Binani Rejects ‘Flawed’ Congresses

Fresh crisis is rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as former governorship candidate Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, has openly faulted the outcome of the party’s recent ward and local government congresses, describing them as “flawed, exclusionary and imposed.”

Senator Binani, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC in late 2025, raised the alarm while addressing journalists in Yola on Monday.

“What happened was not a congress but a clear imposition,” she said. “Loyal members who sacrificed to build the party were deliberately shut out. Forms were hoarded, venues were changed without notice, and returning officers behaved as if they were reading from a pre-written script.”

The senator warned that unless the national leadership of the ADC swiftly intervenes by cancelling the controversial congresses and conducting fresh ones, many of her supporters may have no option but to leave the party.

“We joined the ADC to build a credible alternative platform, not to inherit the same culture of impunity we left behind in the APC. If this injustice is not corrected immediately, we will have no choice but to reconsider our political future elsewhere,” Binani declared.

Sources close to the senator’s camp disclosed that quiet consultations have already begun with at least two other major political parties in Adamawa State, raising strong speculation of an imminent defection.

The brewing crisis comes barely four months after Binani’s high-profile move to the ADC, a defection that was widely celebrated as a significant boost to the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As at press time, the ADC National Secretariat is yet to issue any official statement on the unfolding dispute in Adamawa.

Political observers believe that if not properly managed, the crisis could seriously weaken the ADC in Adamawa and trigger a wave of defections from the Binani bloc, which commands considerable grassroots support in several parts of the state.

The development is being closely watched as it may reshape the opposition landscape in Adamawa ahead of the next electoral cycle.
