BREAKING: Iran’s Foreign Ministry says supreme leader has full oversight on all issues

According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Thursday, May 7, 2026, no major action is made without the approval of Iran’s Supreme Leader, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry, who has ultimate power over all national decisions.

According to the ministry’s official spokeswoman, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is “wisely” overseeing the country’s politics, security, and strategy while also managing state affairs.

The statement states that the Supreme Leader plays a central role in national policymaking and that the Iranian system of government functions under a highly coordinated framework where important decisions are vetted at the highest level before execution.

Although he has avoided public scrutiny since the beginning of the current dispute involving Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei continues to be the center of attention, prompting these remarks. His statements and written messages have been disseminated through official government channels, according to state media, rather than in-person appearances.

Furthermore, there have been ongoing rumours about his health after the war, even though the Iranian government has not officially verified any specific medical details. Iranian authorities have remained silent on reports that he may have had life-threatening injuries, despite earlier international evaluations to the contrary.

Iranian officials maintain that senior institutions are still operating according to established protocols and that governance is stable and completely effective under his supervision, even though he avoids public appearances.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the Supreme Leader for about 2.5 hours earlier on Thursday. The state-run media outlets framed the gathering as continuing discussions on the future of the country’s leadership and policymaking.

Government officials have framed the gathering as proof that the country’s top brass is still very much involved in handling both internal and foreign issues.

In spite of regional tensions, the spokeswoman for the foreign ministry emphasised that the decision-making processes remain consistent and that all branches of government adhere to directions issued by the highest authority.
