JUST IN: 10-Year-Old Boy Brutally Tortured Over UGX 47,000 as Three Family Members Arrested in Wakiso

Police in Wakiso are holding three suspects in connection with the aggravated torture of a 10-year-old boy following a disturbing incident that has shocked residents of Nkoowe Village in Mende Sub-county, Wakiso District.

According to Police, the incident was reported on May 7, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. after concerned individuals alerted authorities that a young boy was being severely tortured by the people responsible for taking care of him. The victim, whose identity has been withheld for protection, was reportedly found in critical condition after suffering serious injuries to both of his hands.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the main suspect, identified as Muwanguzi Matovu, a 30-year-old mechanic and uncle to the child, allegedly tortured the boy on April 30, 2026. Reports indicate that the suspect accused the child of stealing UGX 47,000 from their home and decided to punish him in a cruel manner.

Police say the child was allegedly tied to a window using a rubber string for a long period of time. During the painful ordeal, the boy reportedly tried to free himself, but in the process sustained even more severe injuries to his hands and body. The shocking treatment has left many residents angry and heartbroken, with some questioning how guardians could inflict such pain on a helpless child.

The victim was immediately rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment and is currently receiving care. Medical personnel are reportedly monitoring his condition closely as investigations continue into the disturbing case.

Authorities have since arrested three suspects connected to the incident. They include Muwanguzi Matovu, the child’s uncle and main suspect, Muwanguzi Farouk, the father of the victim, and Tusubira Rebecca, the wife to the uncle. All three are currently being held in Police custody as investigations continue.

Police have strongly condemned all forms of child abuse and torture, warning parents and guardians against taking the law into their own hands when disciplining children. Authorities emphasized that children deserve protection, care, and guidance rather than violence and cruelty.

Speaking on the matter, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal said Police remain fully committed to ensuring justice for victims of child torture and abuse. She urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of violence against children so that quick action can be taken before situations become deadly.

The incident has once again raised concerns about increasing cases of child abuse in homes, with child rights activists calling for tougher punishments against offenders and more awareness about proper ways of disciplining children. Many Ugandans online have also expressed sadness and anger, demanding justice for the young boy and stronger protection for vulnerable children across the country.
