Retired General Lucky Irabor, a former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, has denied in an interview that the Nigerian Armed Forces are accepting or reintegrating former Boko Haram members. He said that the claims are false and impossible to be true given the military’s recruitment policies.
The speaker, Irabor, reflected on his time as CDS under Presidents Buhari and Tinubu and discussed his experiences fighting insurgency during a talk that took place between January 2021 and June 2023.
He boasted about his extensive understanding of crucial counter-insurgency programs, having been a part of them since they were first launched.
Whatever the military has done, you would attribute it to Tinubu if you dislike him as president. It has been with me from the start; I wasn’t the CDS but I was at the theatre during its inception. Everything it represents and does is clear to me. While I was CDS, I added to it and worked on it further. Neither the military nor any other institution offers anything close to reintegration. According to Irabor, that is incorrect.
