If the identities of the officials who emerged from the national convention of Dumebi Kachikwu’s ADC group are not uploaded by INEC chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, the former presidential candidate has threatened to begin contempt proceedings against Amupitan.
In an interview with Channels Television, Kachikwu made this claim while claiming that his loyalists had held a convention and state congress in compliance with a recent court ruling that gave power to the acknowledged state chairman.
He went on to say that the personnel in charge of the convention had already updated INEC’s portal to reflect the new state chairmen who had emerged from the congresses.
He stated that the state-level crisis is being ignored by media coverage that solely centers on the David Mark-led organization. He claimed that all over the country, INEC’s website lists the chairmen who are in cahoots with his faction.
According to him, his organization followed the court’s directive and held a congress and convention since only state chairmen are authorised to do so. According to Kachikwu, a separate unresolved case involving the Nafiu Bala and David Mark factions is the reason INEC continues to portray the leadership of David Mark.
“So when there was a court order that says you don’t have to do that, they then put them (the David Mark-led group) there,” he said, “but there’s a court order that makes clear that the state chairman should conduct congresses, which is what they’ve done.” They should have conducted a convention, he added. Our congresses were heard, and the ones who emerged were uploaded, so what happens after the convention?
“So after this convention, if INEC does not then upload those who will emerge on their portal, then we’ll go to court and get the INEC chairman charged for contempt of court.”
