Umeh questioned the impact of the recent Federal High Court ruling on the Peace Movement Party (PMP), arguing that the decision offers no meaningful advantage to the association while creating uncertainty for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Umeh maintained that the court’s decision primarily affects the NDC, which he said has already completed several constitutional and electoral processes in preparation for the 2027 general elections. He argued that the party had lawfully commenced operations after its registration and had carried out activities expected of a recognized political party.
While defending the NDC’s position, Umeh challenged the justification for the ruling by asking, “The ruling that was given on Friday, what benefit does it confer on PMP? Can you tell me?”
He insisted that PMP is not participating in the 2027 electoral process as a registered political party and therefore does not stand to gain any practical benefit from the court’s decision. According to him, the ruling instead creates obstacles for the NDC, which has already conducted congresses, elected party officials, and produced candidates for various elective positions.
Umeh added that the NDC has appealed the judgment, expressing confidence that the Court of Appeal will carefully examine the legal issues surrounding the case.
