According to a report by Channels TV, on Monday April 13, 2026, Security consultant Onyekachi Adekoya has come forward to defend the recent military action in the Northeast, asserting that video evidence points to insurgents using local markets as strategic hubs for replenishing their arsenals.
Adekoya noted that the footage released by the Nigerian Army suggests the Jilili market in Yobe State was serving as a critical node for terrorist logistics before the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) intervened.
Adekoya argued that the aerial footage provides a clear narrative of the insurgents’ operational patterns.
He suggested that the terrorists were not merely passing through but were utilizing the location to prepare for subsequent strikes on military and civilian targets.
“If you look at the video that the NAF posted, it would suggest that the terrorists were going to the Jilili market to refresh, restock, and resupply arms, and then head to some other garrison towns to conduct further attacks,” Adekoya explained.
The analyst highlighted the extreme difficulty the Nigerian military faces in securing the region. He pointed out that in the Northwest and parts of the Northeast, armed groups often exploit jurisdictional gaps to move with “relative freedom.”
Despite the complexities of these operations, Adekoya maintained that the military’s decision to strike was backed by official security protocols.
He reminded the public that the targeted zones had already been flagged by local authorities as high-risk areas.
“Let’s call a spade a spade. The government of Borno has designated the area a terrorist enclave and has closed down those markets,” he stated.
