According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday April 29, 2026, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Osifo Stanley, has picked nomination forms to contest the 2027 presidential election, creating surprise within the party, as many leaders have already shown support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Chief Stanley collected the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on Tuesday evening in Abuja, this came on the same day that a lawmaker, James Faleke, picked the forms on behalf of President Tinubu, Faleke represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Many party members had expected that President Tinubu would run without serious opposition within the APC, however, Stanley’s decision to join the race has changed that expectation, it has raised questions about internal unity in the party ahead of the election.
Speaking to journalists after picking the forms, Stanley said he wants to improve governance in Nigeria, he explained that there are areas where the current administration has not performed well, he mentioned sectors like technology as needing urgent attention.
Stanley stated that his ambition is to help build a country driven by integrity, innovation, and inclusive development and added that his plan is to create opportunities for all Nigerians, regardless of their background.
He denied claims that he is being sponsored by any individual or group, according to him, his decision to contest is personal, he said he has always acted independently in his political career.
Stanley promised that, if elected, he would run an inclusive government, he said his administration would respect the Federal Character Principle as stated in the Constitution and stressed the need for fairness, equity, and justice in governance.
