Nyesom Wike: If They Tell Journalists To Write That People Are Carrying Placards, They Have Failed

According to Channels Television on Wednesday, June 10th 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed attempts by protesters carrying placards to discredit the administration of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the government remains focused on delivering projects and will not succumb to pressure or blackmail.

Wike made the remarks during the commissioning of a road project in Abuja, where he responded to the presence of individuals displaying placards over grievances related to government activities in the area.

The minister accused the protesters of seeking publicity through actions he described as ineffective, maintaining that their efforts would not derail the administration’s development agenda.

“If they are carrying these things for journalists to write that people are carrying placards, tell them they have failed,” Wike said.

According to him, the protesters lacked genuine issues that could undermine the achievements of the government.

“They have nothing to write,” he stated.

“Tell them it does not work and it will not work.”

Wike, however, urged aggrieved individuals and communities to engage government through proper channels whenever they require intervention or assistance.

“If you want any help from me that you think we should do, come properly,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor warned against what he described as attempts to blackmail public officials through demonstrations and media campaigns.

“But if it is by carrying blackmail, no way,” he declared.

“It does not work.”

The minister stressed that the administration would remain resolute in pursuing policies and projects it considers beneficial to residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

“This government cannot fall for any blackmail,” Wike said.

“We must stand firm and we are firm to do what we think is right.”

He reiterated that the focus of the FCT Administration remains on infrastructure development and service delivery, adding that government decisions would continue to be guided by the overall interest of residents rather than pressure from individuals or groups.
