According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday, June 21, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) of the Abia State Police Command have arrested a man accused of assaulting a woman in a video that went viral on social media.
The suspect was apprehended following intelligence received by the unit, with officers led by the Commander of the VCRU, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Emeka Amanchukwu, carrying out the operation.

According to sources familiar with the development, the police moved quickly after the video attracted public attention and began efforts to identify and locate the individual involved in the incident.
A photograph showing the suspect in police custody was shared on Facebook on June 20, with reports indicating that he was arrested in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba, Abia State.
The arrest came after members of the public expressed concern over the footage, which showed the man allegedly attacking the woman. The incident generated reactions online, with many calling for swift action against individuals involved in acts of violence.
A source who confirmed the arrest said the suspect was currently being detained by the police as investigations into the matter continue.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue,” the source said.
