Former Commissioner for Information and Communications in Rivers State, Austin Tam-George, has accused former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike of being responsible for the political crisis in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Tam-George dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had taken actions against Wike since becoming governor.
According to him, Fubara has remained calm despite what many Rivers residents see as unfair actions and political pressure from Wike and his supporters. He said records show that the governor has not carried out any hostile move against his predecessor.
Tam-George argued that the political conflict in Rivers State has mainly come from attacks and opposition directed at Fubara’s administration by Wike and his allies. He added that the situation eventually contributed to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, which he described as a major setback for democracy in Rivers State.
The former commissioner said many Rivers people now see Wike as one of the worst former governors the state has ever had because of actions they believe threatened democratic processes and the will of the people.
He also called on Wike to allow peace to return to Rivers State.
In his words, “Nyesom Wike has probably emerged the worst former governor that Rivers State has ever had. A governor whose aggressive actions lead directly to the endangerment of popular will, derailment of democratic practices in Rivers State.”
