According to a report by Premium Times on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Presidency has threatened legal action against social media commentator Martins Otse over the circulation of an audio clip allegedly attributed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Presidency described the recording as fake and accused the influencer, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), of spreading manipulated content capable of misleading members of the public.
According to the Presidency, the controversial audio contained remarks allegedly made by a voice resembling that of President Tinubu.
The recording reportedly touched on issues relating to insecurity in the South-east, borrowing from the World Bank and discussions surrounding the 2027 general election.
The Presidency insisted that the audio was fabricated and should not be linked to the Nigerian leader.
The warning was issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday.
Onanuga stated that the circulation of the audio amounted to misinformation capable of damaging the image of the President and deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
He further maintained that the spread of manipulated materials on social media platforms remains a serious concern, especially when such content involves sensitive national issues and public office holders.
According to him, individuals who intentionally distribute false information should be held accountable under the law to discourage the misuse of digital platforms.
He said, “This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”
