According to a report by Metro on Tuesday June 9, 2026, incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly made it clear that he wants Enzo Fernandez to remain at Stamford Bridge despite growing interest from Real Madrid.
The Argentina international has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s key transfer targets ahead of the summer window, with reports suggesting the Spanish giants are preparing an offer in an attempt to lure the midfielder away from west London.
Fernandez is believed to be open to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu after a disappointing season with Chelsea. The Blues endured a difficult campaign, finishing 10th in the Premier League and missing out on qualification for European competition.
The midfielder has been a regular figure in Chelsea’s starting lineup since arriving from Benfica in January 2023 in a deal worth more than £100 million. Despite the club’s struggles, Fernandez has remained one of the team’s most influential players and has continued to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Real Madrid are expected to strengthen their squad significantly this summer as they prepare for another title challenge both domestically and in Europe. Club president Florentino Perez is reportedly backing manager Jose Mourinho in the transfer market, with Fernandez viewed as a player capable of strengthening the club’s midfield options.
However, Chelsea are reluctant to part ways with the World Cup winner and are understood to value him at around £120 million. The club does not consider Fernandez available for transfer and would only contemplate a sale if an exceptional offer is received.
Alonso, who is set to officially begin his tenure as Chelsea manager in July, reportedly sees Fernandez as a key part of his plans for the future. The former Real Madrid midfielder is expected to oversee several changes to the squad but is determined to retain the club’s most important players as he begins rebuilding the team.
The Spaniard is believed to be targeting reinforcements in several positions during the transfer window, including central defence and attack. Nevertheless, keeping Fernandez at the club is viewed as a priority as Chelsea seek to return to contention for major honours.
